(Jaclyn) I completed the Library Challenge whilst a class was booked into the Reading room and Class Area 2 was used to have COW access. Class Areas have signs to remind students and staff which area is which. I know I get them confused. The Library wasn't used for the Year 7 Orientation Sessions during my observation session. However the resources for the Learning Stations were on display as they were being used next session.
I noticed that the Library used posters to engage students and be used as a learning resource to promote independent learning/thinking. The numerous resources for The Year 7 Library Orientation Theme of Spies “Secret Agents” are displayed; the Learning
Intentions, The instructions for the different Learning Stations. 3D puzzle
posters are used to motivate and guide students during change of activity and
movement between spaces.
Starting the Orientation Program with the Learning Intentions is important as they are a part of the Instructional Model. (See attached photo, which I took) The Library Orientation Program consisted of 10 Learning Stations. Some aspects of the program are completed individually, whilst others are in pairs and as a whole class. This allows for Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Multiple Intelligences. The students received a card upon entering the library. This card was to match them with a partner for the
Learning Stations. The cards featured famous spies from literature and film; Mr
and Mrs Smith, Nancy Drew, Bond, Max and Agent 99 as well as Alex Rider.
A class is using the Reading Room. The students come out from the Reading Room to find novels to read. A librarian is helping students to find novels that reflect their interest. This is using the college resources both human and equipment as the Library Team spend time making sure the resources are in the right location for students and staff to easily find.
